The Globeleq Scholarship Fund (GSF) has opened applications for the 2025 academic year, reaffirming its decade-long dedication to uplifting Black youth in the communities surrounding Soutpan Solar Power in Limpopo. Over the years, the Fund has become a critical source of financial support for students in the Bochum area, enabling access to tertiary education, thereby actively contributing to the region’s educational and socio-economic development as part of South Africa’s broader transformation agenda.
“This scholarship fund is essential in supporting Black youth and predominantly female beneficiaries from the Bochum area, providing opportunities that many families would otherwise not have,” says Hlengiwe Radebe, Economic Development Director at Globeleq South Africa Management Services and Soutpan Solar Power. “Through this funding, we are not only investing in individual futures but also contributing to the upliftment of entire communities.”
The Fund is open to students living within a 50km radius of the solar facility, including areas such as Ga-Mochemi Village, Germark Village, Ga-Maphoto Village, Senwabarwana, Indermark, Avon, Gamachaba, Mohodi, Vienna Village, and Driekoppies.
The GSF Communities Fund is available to students pursuing any field of study, providing crucial support that covers tuition fees, travel and accommodation costs, book allowances, and a stipend. The Fund also includes the GSF Engineering Sciences bursary, a national initiative supporting students in engineering disciplines to ensure a steady pipeline of qualified talent for the renewable energy sector.
The GSF’s approach goes beyond academic performance, focusing on financial need, location, and gender, aligning with its goal to increase the representation of women in engineering and related fields. Since its launch, the Fund has disbursed over R24 million in bursaries, reinforcing its commitment to breaking down barriers to education.
Note: Applications are open until 31 October 2024, and the bursaries are available for degrees, certificates, or TVET college courses. For more information or to apply, visit http://globeleq.auraams.app/.
